Where? Auckland! South of the CBD
With? Milo the Golden Lab and Riley the Chocolate Lab
When? December
Most memorable moment: Milo’s excitement for food.
I can see a bit of myself in Milo. He longs all day for dinner, and dreams all night of breakfast. We made friends quickly.

Other fun facts:
Milo walks whilst pooping.
Milo loses 2kg of fur each day
Riley is very sneaky when you’re cooking lamb.
Milo likes big muddy puddles to plonk himself into.
Most frequented café: Olaf’s Artisan Bakery & Café
There were enough appealing words in the name to have decided it was already a place for me before we even saw the Google review rating. It was not a disappointment. Good cakes, cabinet food and a solid flat white.
Most visited gym: Crossfit New Zealand
Our new gym! Now we are in Auckland we tried out Crossfit NZ for free. Darren was super welcoming and was happy to let us find out for ourselves if it’s what we are looking for. Great space, great coaches, friendly people.
Most walked trail: Mount Eden Summit
Milo and Riley almost get as excited for walks as they do for food. Our Epsom house was about 15 minutes from Mount Eden. The climb is steep but not too long and the views 100% worth it. You can see right across to the CBD as well as out across to the sea on both sides. All whilst feeling a long way from a busy City.
Most visited supermarket: New World, Stonefields
Because it’s right beside the gym and who doesn’t need post-gym snacks?!

Best Day Trip: Campbells Bay – Mairangi Bay – Murrays Bay Walk.
Beaches are always close and the summer sun is always hot in Auckland. We learnt quickly that UK SPF 30 is no longer sufficient and it’s not just dogs that get hot in the summer! Despite this, the walk along the coast was lovely and we stopped off for some nice lunch on the way back. Milo and Riley enjoyed it too and were happy for the shade under our picnic bench.

Our Epsom house-sit was a great introduction to Auckland! Thank-you!
We have arranged all our house sits through kiwihousesitters.co.nz. It costs around £40 to sign up for a year, no other costs. New house sits are advertised daily. You can contact owners directly if you are interested in their house sit. House sitters like us also have a profile, where owners can contact sitters directly. Some of our sits have been arranged through each of these initial contact routes. There is also a UK site that works in the same way.
