Where? Hunua, Auckland

With? Stan the Golden Lab, Fintin the Terrier, Hugo the British Blue Cat, 50 calves, 3 horses and some lambs!

When? December

Most memorable moment: Stan swimming in the pool with us

Stan is a loyal being. He took to us straight away and followed us everywhere. Round the house, in the fields, to the toilet (almost). And in the pool.

Other fun facts:

Fintin has 3 legs.

Hugo rules the house.

Most frequented café: Ranges Café and Bar, Hunua

Hunua is a tiny place, but no fear, there is a more than sufficient café with a good flat white!

Most visited gym: Home Gym!

We had a home gym! Complete with Kettlebells, Dumbells, Boxes and a spin bike, we made up some workouts, I did lots of rehab and oblique strengthening and Charlie did lots of Bicep Curls!

Before the storm

Most walked trail: Hunua Falls Trails

We visited Hunua Falls twice. Once to just check it out, and the other to do the Cossey-Massey Loop Track. The difference in the Falls from the first day to the second was amazing. A sub-tropical storm had come in overnight and brought with it the most sustained thunder and lightening storm I’ve ever experienced plus a ridiculous amount of rain. The Cossey-Massey Loop Track starts and finishes at the falls and was a

very luscious green walk through the forest.

Most visited supermarket: Hunua has no supermarkets.

We stocked up beforehand and visited New World Papakura once during our stay. Hunua has a cute general store but the bread wasn’t good enough for Charlie 😉

Best Day Trip: Clevedon Farmers Market, Clevedon

As Farmer’s Markets go, this is one of the better ones. A proper family trip to the market with optional farm animal petting, pony rides, good coffee and even better fresh strawberry ice cream! If only we had known that all the food we needed for our Sunday Roast could have been bought here, we wouldn’t have tripped to New World the day before. It would have cost us a little more, but also have been a little more fresh, organic and local.

Thanks Hunua for a great time!

We have arranged all our house sits through kiwihousesitters.co.nz. It costs around £40 to sign up for a year, no other costs. New house sits are advertised daily. You can contact owners directly if you are interested in their house sit. House sitters like us also have a profile, where owners can contact sitters directly. Some of our sits have been arranged through each of these initial contact routes. There is also a UK site that works in the same way.
