Where? Taupo, central North Island

With?

Riggs the Collie (Aged 14),

Nugget the Terrier Cross (Aged 8 months) Tui the Black Cat (age unknown).

When? November

Most memorable moment: Nuggy escaping over the fence because he wanted to visit the Huka Falls too.

Other fun facts:

Nuggy cannot be trusted with sandals (they call them jandals here).

Nuggy wants to sleep in the living room at night, not his designated room, so provides enjoyable night acoustics.

Riggs is very affectionate but aging fast and has lost feeling in his back legs, so loves walking but falls over whilst doing so. He also doesn’t always know when he is pooing…

Most visited gym: Evolve Fitness Feilding

Not really near Taupo, but we stopped here on the way for some movement. Doing a strict Handstand Pushup EMOM in a globo gym is apparently not the what they usually see. Otherwise 5x5 back squat for first day of new squat programme and a little EMOM 12 with 12 DB overhead lunge, 20 Russian twists with DB and 12 deadlifts. Using those weird bars with rubber masses on each end is different. 35kg never felt so heavy – I’d imagine because the bar is thick and time under tension is longer as it never touches the floor.

Most visited supermarket: Pak N Save, Taupo

Sadly I could not go to Pak N Save, because Nuggy would want to come too. So Charlie went alone.

The Boys

Recommended by our house sit host, we enjoyed this 3k each way track to the powerful Huka Falls. We walked from our house via the town centre for lunch so the walk took us most of the afternoon. Nuggy gave us no choice but to take him with us due to the aforementioned escape. He was a good dog.

We have arranged all our house sits through kiwihousesitters.co.nz. It costs around £40 to sign up for a year, no other costs. New house sits are advertised daily. You can contact owners directly if you are interested in their house sit. House sitters like us also have a profile, where owners can contact sitters directly. Some of our sits have been arranged through each of these initial contact routes. There is also a UK site that works in the same way.
